Description: Andre de Villiers' sturdy utility folders are a pleasure to own, to hold, and - most importantly - to use. This large folder is among my favorite de Villiers knives to date.
The blade of this Hummer was formed from 19C27 stainless steel, which is in the same family as 12C27. It is one of those rare steels that has exceptional edge holding and can be easily stropped from sort-of-dull to scary-sharp in a few moments. The blade has smooth action and is perfectly centered. It features a long swedge with a strong piercing tip. A jimped flipper opening mechanism means the blade is always moments away from ready-to-use, and a thumb disc offers the user an alternative method of opening the knife. The flipper is pierced for a captivating effect.
The scales are formed from sculpted very rare lightning strike carbon fiber. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightening strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. The liners, liner lock, back spacers and pocket clip are satin finished to match the blade. Jimping on the liners is revealed where the G10 has been recessed - complementing the sculpted lightening strike carbon fiber well and also aiding with grip during use. The absence of a backbar allows for easy cleaning and lighter construction. The pocket clip is set for tip up carry. Exceptional work throughout!
