Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought out and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. It is always a pleasure to find rare pieces such as this one. This Traditional Hunter is a rare example of Bob's work both because it has brass fittings and because it features engraving. This knife has been in a single private collection and is in new/mint condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
Highly contorted, stabilized black ash burl has been dyed and stabilized to an emerald tone. It is nicely offset with a jet black buffalo horn spacer. The brass guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. Both have been engraved by Kenneth Warren, resulting in a tremendous sense of elegance.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade has been heat treated to 57Rc for optimal edge retention. It is clear why Bob's work is sought after by both collectors and hunters.
Accompanied by certificate from the maker, leather sheath and Cordura storage pouch.
