Description: Owen Wood started making knives in 1972 and seven years later became one of South Africa's first full time professional knifemakers. In 1980 he was one of the founding members of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa and was also the chairman of the organization for 10 years. Since then, Owen has become world renowned for his incredible art knives that have high levels of fit and finish. In 1999 Owen and his family moved from South Africa to Denver, Colorado, where he spent two years working for Spyderco. He helped out in their research and development department and ran their Golden, CO factory before returning to full-time knife making.
This dramatic Owen Wood folder was made prior to Owen's immigration to the United States. This was his first utility folder design and shows his full promise as a craftsman, designer, and artist. This knife has been in a private collection since it was made. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The ATS-34 stainless steel blade features a hand rubbed satin finish. The blade is easily opened using the heat blued knurled thumb stud. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky smooth action.
The scales are made from differentially heat blued and textured 303 stainless steel. Stainless standoffs keep the knife light and make it easy to clean pocket lint out. The lock has been blued to help it stand out from the rest of the knife.
Exceptional work throughout!
