Description: Prior to starting Sea Rose Knifeworks, Sasha Rosenfeld was a professional cook in Seattle for 15 years. When he made the move from chef de cuisine to stay-at-home dad and part time prep cook, he began taking blacksmithing classing and began forging his first kitchen knives in his backyard while his daughter was napping. In the fall of 2018, Rosenfeld decided to step away from professional kitchens for good and opened Sea Rose Knifeworks.
Recently, Sasha has been working on some high performance hunting knives. The results have been exceptional. This hunting knife will be as comfortable on your belt out in the field as it will be at home in a private collection.
The 5 inch blade is hand forged 52100 carbon steel with a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and knife users to be among the best steels (if not the best!) used in modern knifemaking. It combines exceptional edge holding with durability and ease of sharpening. The blade is lightly convexed and razor sharp. Sasha's touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is Tasmanian blackwood. Tasmanian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon) is native to Tasmania and eastern Australia. Although called “blackwood,” the name is somewhat of a misnomer, as its wood is not at all black. Rather, its lustrous golden-brown grain and figure are very similar to Hawaiian curly koa. The sculpted handle provides a comfortable grip with no hot spots. The front of the handle is sealed with a bronze guard.
To keep the knife safe during transportation, a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath made by Sam Reed is included.
Excellent work throughout!
