Description: Mardi Meshejian's knives are always exciting -- combining his skilled workmanship with a unique perspective on edged art -- he is a unique and talented artist first and foremost. This Fluted Damascus Dagger is among my favorite of his knives to date.
The 7-1.2 inch long asymmetrical dagger ground shape blade is immediately captivating. The twist pattern damascus is extremely intricate and a perfect choice. The blade is nicely hand carved as it meets the ricasso.
The handle is persimmon wood. The light toned wood nicely offsets the twisted, anodized niobium wire that is set at the ridge of each of the meticulous hand flutes. The guard and pommel are each made from Japanese shibuichi. Shibuichi means "one-fourth" in Japanese and indicates the standard formulation of one part silver to four parts copper. Until Japan's Meiji reforms (late 19th century), when swordsmiths began to make purely decorative objects instead of swords, shibuichi was used to ornament various fittings for katana.
