Description: Jeremy Yelle is a 22 year old up-and-coming maker out of Quebec, Canada. His current focus is high performance kitchen knives, bowie knives, and hunting knives. He received his journeyman smith rating at the 2022 Blade Show in Atlanta. His work is exceptional and he is sure to be a maker to keep an eye on.
This hunting knife was part of Yelle's JS test. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career.
The blade is hand forged 80CrV2 carbon steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. 80CrV2 carbon steel is tough, chip resistant, and has excellent wear resistance. The blade features a distal taper. Jeremy's mark is on the left side of the blade.
The handle is presentation grade ringed gidgee (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. The handle is heirloom fit to a polished brass guard. The knife feels great in the hand and is up to heavy duty tasks, though it is likely to be the highlight of most any collection.
Excellent work throughout!
