Description: Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere.
The blade is perfectly centered with silky-smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. It uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. Jimping on the flipper tab makes the knife particularly easy to deploy.
The blade is hand ground M390 stainless steel. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
Handle scales are carbon fiber with Arizona desert ironwood inlaid flawlessly into both sides. Desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a rare wood that is only found in the valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. It is extremely dense and durable. In fact it is so dense, that if a piece is dropped in water it will sink! Blue anodized and jewel polished titanium liners surround a zirconium backbar. Terraced pivot collars are heat colored zirconium. The matching 3D machined black titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout!
