Description: We were very excited to meet Jarrett Cieslak at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA. Cieslak is an exceptional young bladesmith that is clearly a maker to watch. We anticipate that he will become 'one of the greats'.
At 15 years old, back in 2013, Jarrett began making knives after encountering blacksmithing videos on YouTube. He was immediately hooked. Between 2014 and 2016, he received a machining certificate from Harford Community College and was awarded welding certifications from Earlbeck Welding. This continuing education (along with hours and hours of hammering) gave him an understanding of how he could merge these experiences with his blacksmithing. In 2018, he attended an ABANA conference in Richmond, VA, where he was encouraged to join the American Bladesmith Society. Jarrett takes great pride in his craft, from forging the steel, to fit and finish, to personally hand stitching every sheath. His artistry stems from the love of transforming raw materials into a high performance knife that is sure to be passed down through generations.
The raised clip point blade is hand forged from W-1 carbon steel and was heat treated using a traditional Japanese clay zone heat treatment. This technique, known as honyaki, produces some of the longest lasting edges found anywhere. The ultra-hard edge steel is supported by the softer spine. The dramatic heat treatment line (called a hamon) shows the transition between the soft and hard steel.
The handle is stabilized and dyed curly maple. It is contoured to lock your fingers securely between the beak and guard. The handle is fit perfectly to a fluted stainless steel guard. This one is designed for someone who has a medium to smaller hand.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
