Description: We were very excited to meet Jarrett Cieslak at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA. Cieslak is an exceptional young bladesmith that is clearly a maker to watch. We anticipate that he will become 'one of the greats'. This clip point hunter shows off his work at its best -- from the highly controlled mosaic damascus to the heirloom fit frame construction handle, this is truly exceptional work!
At 15 years old, back in 2013, Jarrett began making knives after encountering blacksmithing videos on YouTube. He was immediately hooked. Between 2014 and 2016, he received a machining certificate from Harford Community College and was awarded welding certifications from Earlbeck Welding. This continuing education (along with hours and hours of hammering) gave him an understanding of how he could merge these experiences with his blacksmithing. In 2018, he attended an ABANA conference in Richmond, VA, where he was encouraged to join the American Bladesmith Society. Jarrett takes great pride in his craft, from forging the steel, to fit and finish, to personally hand stitching every sheath. His artistry stems from the love of transforming raw materials into a high performance knife that is sure to be passed down through generations.
The clip point blade was hand forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The mosaic damascus is extremely complex and shows tremendous skill at the forge. The grinds are well performed and perfectly balanced from side to side. Cieslak's makers mark (a stylized beard) is set on the left ricasso. The blade is a perfect length for daily carry and will get most any task done with ease. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust and oxidation.
The contoured handle is made from presentation grade stabilized redwood burl. The rare wood has many dramatic eyes. The handle is a frame construction with an heirloom fit. The twist pattern damascus frame meets perfectly to the fluted damascus ferrule. The satin finished guard is 4116 stainless steel. The handle locks your fingers securely between the beak and guard. It is broad, providing a comfortable grip through hours of work. This knife is designed for someone who has a medium to smaller hand.
Excellent work throughout.
