Description: Rusty Preston discovered knifemaking after retiring in 2003 and made his first knife – a fixed blade – in Nov. 2003. In early 2004, he made his first folder under the watchful eye of Bill Ruple. He’s been exhibiting at Blade Show in Atlanta since 2006. Over the years, he has become well known for his high performance, precision slipjoints.
Preston included three blades on this traditional Whittler pattern: a spey blade (2.6 inch), a long clip point (2.8 inch), and a skinner (2.6 inch). For centuries, clip point blades have been the main blade in more knives than not. A clip point provides a strong, yet detail-oriented tip and is a perfect choice for a wide variety of tasks. The skinner blade provides a thin blade that provides a supremely clean cut with a deep belly. The spey blade was traditionally used for skinning or castrating purposes when used around a farm or ranch. The blades are hand ground premium CPM-154 stainless steel. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it while remaining tough and chip resistant. The blades can be easily opened using the nail nicks.
The handle is formed from light toned amber stag scales set on stainless steel liners using hand domed pins. Front and rear bolsters are made from polished 416 stainless steel.
Exceptional work throughout!
