Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Skinner brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. Each year, when I visit with him, his work continues to develop. This integral clip point utility is a tremendous example of his work.
The blade was hand forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and users to be among the highest performing steels used to make modern knives. The razor sharp blade transitions into an integral guard. Integral knives require a particularly talented bladesmith and Skinner as shown himself to be easily up to the task.
The contoured handle is 2500 year old bog oak. This wood was buried in a peat bog and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions for approximately 2500 years. Alternating black and red fiber spacers separate the ancient wood from the bolster.
This knife is accompanied by a custom pouch style leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
