This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
The Ranger Breaching Axe was modeled after an historical axe identified as belonging to a member of Rogers' Rangers. Rogers' company was formed to fight in the French and Indian War (the Seven Years' War in Canada, Britain and Europe), in the borderlands of the colonial Northeast United States. Rogers' Rangers became the chief scouting arm of British Crown forces by the late 1750s. The British valued them highly for gathering intelligence about the enemy.
The axe head is a classic shape with semi-bearded design for better control when choking up and an end spike for piercing and prying. The straight handle give this breaching axe a natural position in the hand and is balanced well thanks to the full length integral and skeletonized tang. Forward weight distribution packs an effective blow, while a secondary hand grip under the head gives the option of quick action when needed. This Ranger Breaching Axe features a pry/piercing butt end.
Hand sculpted multicam G-10 scales provide a sure, comfortable grip. The top grip is formed from wrapped Paracord and provides added comfort and allows a section of the handle to be repaired easily if damaged during use. The cutting edge measures approximately 2-1/4 inches. The head measures approximately 6-1/2 inches from cutting edge to the end of the spike.
The Ranger Breaching Axe is accompanied by a felt lined Kydex carrier with nylon webbing belt hangers.
