Description: I was excited when Mastersmith David Lisch introduced me to Mike Clark Jr. Mike's attention to detail was clearly evident in his exquisite work. Given the level of work, it is no surprise that Mike easily passed his journeyman smith test at the 2019 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA.
This forged spear point bowie was inspired by the work of San Francisco knifemaker Michael Price. Knives by Price were the height of knifemaking in 1890s California. This golden age of American knifemakers created some of the most dramatic and elegant knives of our land. This knife is reminiscent of this earlier era when a man needed to have a knife at his side (or even in his boot!) for added protection (or offense!). During this time of card sharks and wild dreams, the distinction between a genteman and a scoundrel was often blurred.
The spear point blade was forged to shape from Clark's own damascus. By combining 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels, Clark ensures a keen, long lasting edge. Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust.
The handle is made from spalted Asian ebony. This dramatic wood combines a wide range of brown and black tones. The oval guard is made from antique wrought iron. The ferrule is perfectly fit to the oval guard and is made from blued stainless steel. This knife has great balance and feels exceptional in hand. As is typical of Mike Clark's work, this knife featuers take-down construction. This technique, which requires exceptional attention to detail, allows the knife to be disassebled if it ever needs repair.
This knife is accompanied by a custom hand tooled, hand stitched leather sheath.
Excellent work throughout!
