Description: Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
The rustic Highland Hunter is among my favorite new editions Winkler Knives has offered in quite some time! The design was born from knowledge created from a true understanding of outdoor survival. It is reminiscent of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler's hand forged knives. There really isn't anything you couldn't accomplish in an outdoor environment using just the WK Highland Hunter and WK Highland Hatchet. The first 100 Highland Hunters are individually numbered.
The Highland Hunter features a 4-3/4 inch blade made from 80CrV2 carbon steel and features a non-glare black oxide finish. A fileworked thumbrest provides excellent traction. The flat ground blade is perfect for skinning, field prep, and would handle minor chopping tasks well.
Quarter sawn curly white oak scales are secured to a fully distal tapered blade and tang. The curly oak has tremendous figure and is finished with a rich brown stain and beeswax to provide its rustic appearance. The Winkler Knives touchmark and serial # is marked on the spine. A brown leather wrapped Kydex sheath with belt clip will keep the knife close by. The sheath also includes a removable Celtic trinity knot overlay.
