Description: A member of the South Carolina Association of Knife Makers, Claude Montjoy was a full-time maker who sold his first knife in 1982. He made knives by the stock removal method and built just about every style of knife imaginable. He even made most of the equipment used to craft his knives. In addition to knifemaking, he restored antique cars, enjoyed hot rods, and even built an airplane from scratch. Unfortunately he passed away at the age of 74 on September 23, 2011. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances it could have been made yesterday!
Claude hand ground the boot dagger blade from ATS-34 stainless steel. A hand rubbed satin finish adds an heirloom quality to the blade. The top edge stops just short of being fully sharpened. Claude's maker mark is on the left side of the blade.
Beautiful tiger coral scales are set on a distal tapered full tang. The scales are perfectly dovetailed to hand engraved stainless steel bolsters. The deep relief scroll engraving provides excellent grip. Red fiber liners help the natural coral to adjust to any humidity and temperature changes.
Excellent work throughout!
