Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor has wanted to make a Khukri for many years and built his first one about 2 years ago. The Gurkha knife has inspired many knifemakers over the years and it is no surprise that this legendary blade affected Shane's (already creative) imagination. Taylor combined the traditional Khukri with his batwing fighter to create the Khuki Bat.
The massive blade was forged to shape from Shane's own damascus. It combines a mosic damascu primary bar with a firecracker pattern edge. By forging the blade to shape, Taylor ensured that the pattern follows the blade shape. Each side features fullers to lighten the blade. With its large size and deep recurve, this khukri has massive chopping power. The left ricasso features Taylor's maker's mark (ST) inlaid in 24k gold.
The handle combines forged bronze with carved black and white ebony wood (Diospyros malabarica). The dragon wing pattern was created by forging the bronze using custom made dies. Black and white ebony (Diospyros malabarica) handle scales are exceptionally dramatic. They are a blond and dark brown tones. The scales are beautifully contoured for a secure, comfortable, swinging grip. They are set on a full tang with textured and heat colored screws. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered, ensuring a perfect sense of balance. This Khukri is relatively light and extremely nimble. You won't be able to resist swinging it!
Absolutely exceptional!
