Description: Mastersmith P.J. Tomes creates utilitarian hunting knives of true perfection. The DH Skinner was originally designed by one of PJ's students, Danny Harsey. Showing that sometimes the teacher learns from the student, PJ continues to call this model his DH Skinner in honor of Danny.
Mastersmith P.J. Tomes doesn't make as many knives has he used to, so I was extremely pleased when he called to let us know he had just completed some new knives.
The blade was forged from 52100 carbon steel -- a steel that many knifemakers and collectors feel to have the highest performance found anywhere. The blade is hand satin finished for an heirloom quality. The blade and tang are both distal tapered, creating a knife that immediately becomes an extension of your hand when held.
Polished, stabilized cow bone handle scales provide a sure, comfortable grip. They are nicely contoured and set on a distal tapered full tang for strength and durability. Nickel silver pins nicely finish out the handle.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout.
