Description: A knifemaker since 2008, Jackson has worked at Tharwa Valley Forge since 2016, making custom knives and teaching classes. Inspired by Master Smith Jerry Fisk, Jackson aspires to constantly push his creative limits and grow as an artist. Rumble was honored as a Journeyman Smith at the 2019 Blade Show in Atlanta. Along with his journeyman smith credentials, this knife received the prestigious Joe Keeslar Award for Best JS Knife Presented.
This Integral Keyhole Fighter was part of Rumble's JS test set and the knife that won him the Joe Keeslar award. When a maker tests to become a journeyman, they create five knives that are the height of their work. These five knives are then judged by established masters to determine if the maker's work is up to snuff. Often, prospective journeymen spend 2-3 times as long creating these five knives as they would generally do, as they know that their work will be poured over by the masters. These five knives are generally considered to be among the most collectable knives of a maker's career.
The large clip point blade was forged to shape from 5160 carbon steel. It features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. 5160 has excellent chip resistance making it ideal for chopping and heavy use. Rumble's makers mark is on the left side of the blade. The blade is flat ground for a high performing edge with superior strength behind it.
The blade seamlessly travels into the integral guard. Creating an integral guard in a handmade knife shows particular skill at the forge and Jackson has done this to perfection. As if this wasn't impressive enough, the bolster is an integral keyhole which shows his precision at a totally different level! The guard is fit perfectly to the presentation grade desert ironwood handle and contoured for a comfortable grip.
Exceptional work throughout from a talented up and coming maker!
