Description: Oliver Goldschmidt is a bladesmith out of Florence, Italy. He started exploring the knife-making world at age 15 using his home-built coke forge and a piece of railroad track as an anvil. Oliver studied goldsmithing at Istituto d’Arte di Firenze in Florence and became a fully certified goldsmith. He applies that same attention to detail when he works on his forged knives. Today Oliver is a hot air balloon pilot at his father's company in the early mornings and a full time bladesmith during the day. This large damascus chopper is an incredible example of what he is capable of creating.
The large 11 inch damascus blade is made from Oliver's own random pattern damascus -- forged from O2 and 15n20 carbon steels. A deep etch gives it plenty of contrast to see the pattern even from a distance. A large recurve provides plenty of chopping power. The beautifully fit integral bolster shows Oliver's tremendous skill at the forge. The blade is distal tapered providing exceptional balance in hand.
The stabilized koa wood handle is heirloom fit to the integral bolster. The elegantly carved handle provides an extremely comfortable grip even after hours of use. It was brought to a high polish to show off the lovely chatoyancy that koa wood is known for. The handle is finished with Oliver's signature damascus butt cap.
Excellent work throughout!
