Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burk introduced me to his work.
The 3-3/4 inch blade was closely forged to shape from W2 carbon steel. Kevin brought in a traditional Japanese heat treating technique called honyaki whereby the spine is coated in clay prior to quenching. The result is a more resilient spine with a keen, long lasting cutting edge. The line travelling along the blade is called a hamon. This technique has exceptional results and shows Kevin's skills at their best.
The handle is formed from ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee is an exceptional wood for knife handles and is considered to be one of Australia's most beautiful timbers. It has tremendous stability even when exposed to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. It is among the densest woods in the world and has a beautiful curl similar to Hawaiian koa. A nickel silver guard is perfectly fit to blade and handle. A black fiber spacer assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
The knife is accompanied by a tooled pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
