Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was excited when Mastersmith Bill Burke introduced me to his work. Kevin began making knives after taking a weekend knifemaking course and became instantly hooked. It is now his full time job and passion. He even teaches knifemaking classes out of his shop to continue passing on the knowledge that was granted to him.
The 4-3/4 inch blade was forged closely to shape from W2 carbon steel. Kevin brought in a traditional Japanese heat treatment technique called honyaki where the spine is coated in clay prior to quenching. The result is a more resilient spine with a keen, long lasting cutting edge. This technique has exceptional results and shows Kevin's skills at their best. After heat treatment, the blade was given an hand rubbed satin finish. The straight spine blade is a perfect choice for use out in the field.
The handle is formed from quilted, spalted myrtle wood. This Australian wood is exceptionally hard and resilient. The light brown toned, beautifully figured wood is immediately captivating. A brass guard is perfectly fit to blade and handle. A black fiber spacer assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity change.
The knife is accompanied by a pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
