Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burke introduced me to his work. Kevin began making knives after taking a weekend knifemaking course and became instantly hooked. It is now his full time job and passion. He even teaches knifemaking classes out of his shop to continue passing on the knowledge that was granted to him.
The 5 inch blade was closely forged to shape from W2 carbon steel. Kevin brought in a traditional Japanese heat treating technique called honyaki whereby the spine is coated in clay prior to quenching. The result is a more resilient spine with a keen, long lasting cutting edge. The undulating line travelling along the blade is called a gunome hamon. This technique has exceptional results and shows Kevin's skills at their best. The drop point blade is a perfect choice for use out in the field.
The handle is formed from ringed gidgee wood (Acacia cambagei). This Australian wood is exceptionally hard and resilient. The warm brown, beautifully curled wood is immediately captivating. A brass guard is perfectly fit to blade and handle. A black fiber spacer assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
The knife is accompanied by a pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
