Description: Neill Schutte is a spectacular knifemaker.
He is perhaps best known for his Loveless style knives and recently started making folders. He has won a stunning set of awards including Best Fighter at the 2014 and 2015 Blade Shows in Atlanta, Best Hunting Knife at the 2014 and 2016 Knifemakers Guild Show of Southern Africa, Best Boot Knife at the 2013 Knifemakers Guild Show of Southern Africa, and Best Fancy Fixed Blade, Best Knife of Show, and Best Working Fixed Blade at the 2013 Bloemfontein Knifemakers Show.
This set of two Loveless Style Fighters shows off his work at its best.
The larger knife is a Loveless 6" Dixon Fighter. The smaller is a Loveless Boot Knife. Both are made from premium RWL-34. RWL-34 is a powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel higher strength and resistance to cracks and chips. The blades feature a hollow boot grind. They are meticulously mirror polished.
The nicely contoured handle is made from burgundy linen Micarta. Like the blades, the Micarta is brought to a high polish. It is set on a distal tapered full tang for strength and durability. Red fiber spacers add a nice contrast. Handle scales are set with hidden bolt rivets and lanyard tubes.
The knives are accompanied by a hand built custom presentation box by Brian Coetzee. Brian is an associate member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa. He built this box from partridgewood (Andira inermis). This rare wood grows in South Africa and has a nice warm brown tone. The interior of the box is also formed from matching partridgewood.
An absolutely tremendous set!
