Description: This Kosie Steenkamp custom Samson front flipper is a fantastic utility folder -- yet it would feel equally comfortable in most any collection. The drop point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for any task at hand. This folder has incredibly smooth action thanks to the IKBS pivot. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The inobtrusive front flipper is tremendously easy to use and won't get caught on things in your pocket. This style of flipper is designed to be flicked out with your thumb.
Kosie was introduced to knifemaking by his brother, Willem Steenkamp. He began making knives in 2007 and was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2009. Kosie is a stickler for detail and perfection -- these qualities and his obvious passion for this craft comes through in his work.
The drop point blade is made from N690 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. N690 is created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp, durable edge and holds onto it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The handle combines stacked black G-10 and carbon fiber with antique Westinghouse Micarta. This Micarta was developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation. This light toned antique Micarta was lost in a warehouse and only recently discovered. The combination of stacked carbon fiber/black G10 and Westinghouse Micarta is particularly dramatic. A Westinghouse Micarta pivot collar surrounds the custom pivot. Bronze anodized titanium liners surround a matching stacked carbon fiber backbar. An anodized, orange peel textured titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
