Description: This folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. This flipper is among his master works to date. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005. Herucus' folders combine incredibly smooth action with a high level of fit and finish.
The drop point blade is made from Bjorkman's Twist pattern stainless damascus by Damasteel. The bold damascus pattern is nicely shown in the high blade grind. It is hollow ground for easy, quick touchups.
The blade is perfectly centered and has incredibly smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This special flipper was created with ceramic ball bearings. Generally IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds -- extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. It is easily opened with the flipper and is among the smoothest action you will ever find.
The scales are made from antique Westinghouse Micarta. This light toned Micarta was lost in a warehouse and only recently discovered. The top show the beautiful yellowing with age that makes this Micarta so captivating. The bolsters are formed from matching stainless damascus and are perfectly fit to the Micarta scales. Titanium liners have been hand filed and anodized. The liners surround a twist pattern damascus backbar. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip with ceramic retention ball is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout!
