Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. Over the years, Kikuo's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
The karambit is originally from the Indonesian archipelago and has found its way throughout South East Asia. Primarily used in the ancient world as a do-it-all knife, modern renditions of this versatile tool have steadily gained popularity and respect within the tactical world of knives. The dramatic shape, finger hole and exotic manipulation have captivated collectors, martial blade practitioners and knife enthusiasts alike.
Kikuo designed the Karambit Claw to be a versatile self defense knife. The wide, thin hamaguri-ba blade makes it ideal for slicing, while the claw shaped design will be perfect whether using striking defense techniques or simply opening boxes.
The blade is made from OU-31 semi-stainless tool steel. OU-31 is a Japanese PM (powdered metallurgical) steel with micro fine crystalline structure that embodies many of the best attributes needed for knives. The steel is hardened to 64 Hrc (very hard!) and has more than 3 times the toughness of D2.
The full tang has been skeletonized to reduce weight significantly without compromising strength. Weighing in at a mere 2.2 ounces, you won't even notice you are carrying the Karambit Claw until you need it. Thanks to the ergonomic design, the handle is very comfortable in either a standard grip or a reverse grip. The karambit ring and jimped thumb ramp give you the extra retention needed during hard use. The spike at the end of the ring can be used as a glass breaker or a non lethal defense option.
This knife includes a Kydex sheath with paracord so it can be worn as a concealed neck knife. It is also accompanied by a removable DOTS belt clip so the sheath can be attached to your belt.
