Description: South African knifemaker, Jan Wahl, is a maker to watch. He became a full time knife maker in 2009 and joined the South African Knife Makers Guild in 2012. Jan has excellent attention to detail.
The drop point blade is made from satin finished N690 stainless steel. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The spine has been nicely rounded for comfort and fileworked for a secure thumb purchase.
South African russet bushwillow (Combretum hereroense) scales are set on a distal tapered full tang. The wood has a figure similar to wild olive, though darker in tone. A mosaic pin adds nice contrast. The stainless steel bolster is nicely dovetailed to the wood scales, ensuring a perfect fit. The hand engraved bolster shows a lion footprint. The handle is nicely carved to swell in the middle and end for a perfect grip. This is a knife you won't want to put down.
This knife includes a vegetable tanned, hand tooled, leather pouch style sheath.
Excellent fit throughout!
