Description: Johann van Deventer, better known as JD, aims to produce unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This flipper is a tactical folder with absolutely exceptional action. The blade is well centered and silky smooth -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
The tanto blade is formed from N690 stainless steel, a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. A pierced fuller artistically travels along the blade.
The handle combines zirconium with silver strike carbon fiber. This variation of lightning strike carbon fiber uses silver toned wire rather than copper. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scuffing. An anodized titanium ring surrounds the pivot and highlights blue tones in the titanium liners. A groove carved into the silver strike carbon fiber nicely reflects the fuller carved into the blade. The ultra-light titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry.
