Description: The West Texas Style Bowie will make an elegant camping knife, hunting knife, and Western re-enactment accessory as well as be a fine addition to any collection.
The blade was hardened by renowned knifemaker, D’Holder, and has been double tempered and cryogenically treated to give it outstanding edge holding ability. The mirror polished 440C stainless steel blade is precision ground by hand with sharp, clean lines. The point has been clipped off at a fairly straight profile to increase the acuity of the point and is ground with a swedge false swedge and left unsharpened. The clip and swedge create an aggressive point.
Cocobolo scales were hand selected for grain and color and are perfectly matched. The coffin shaped handle meets up to a red fiber spacer which assists the scales to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Nickel silver and mosaic pins secure the scales to the full tang. The guard is polished nickel silver and is also artfully sculpted into a coffin shape.
The sheath is a unique convertible design. It can be configured as a conventional belt hanger type sheath with the bowie knife locked in place by the button studded safety strap or the belt loop assembly can be slid off to create a traditional waist band type sheath that slips under the belt.
The sheath was handmade for this bowie knife. It was cut from 8-9 oz premium cowhide shoulder and was wet formed for a snug fit. The sheath is a scabbard design with nickel silver button studs to match the color scheme and hardware on the knife. It was given two airbrushed coats of medium brown leather dye while the edges and borders were airbrushed with dark brown leather dye to bring out the depth and detail. The sheath was hand sewn using a tripe saddler’s stich with a double twisting lock. Finally, the sheath was treated with two coats of acrylic resolene for a beautiful, long wearing water repellent finish. It was completed with two hand rubbed coats of Carnauba Crème Wax giving an ultra-rich, deep finish. The maker has even included the original wooden sheath form (made to the same shape and size of the bowie) used in the individualized construction of this uniquely beautiful sheath.
