Description: Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson's knives have always inspired me. There is a gentlemanly elegance to his work that matches his personality. Jay's classic oak and acorns motif is inlaid in fine silver into presentation grade curly maple. The antiqued wood gives an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson hunter.
Jay began by forging the 5160 carbon steel blade to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's hand forged knives. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the blade, showing the transition between soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge steel. Jay believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal edge retention.
The handle is formed from presentation grade curly maple. Fine silver branches, oak leaves, and acorns are meticulously inlaid into each side with textured and differentially dyed acorns and leaves. The shaping feels great in hand. All finishing and embellishments -- of both knives and sheaths -- are completed by Jay.
This knife is accompanied by a hand tooled, high quality brown leather pouch type sheath.
