Description: This dramatic hunter shows the influence of Mastersmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke, with the recurved, deep bellied blade shape.
The long, drop point, recurve blade was differentially heat treated, bringing the edge to critical temperature then oil quenching three times. Many thermal cycles and normalizing steps ensure consistent grain structure. The blade was then double tempered at 400 degrees for exceptional durability. A cryogenic treatment between tempers enhances the edge holding ability. The blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that this is the best steel available anywhere for use as a knife blade.
The stag handle is comfortable and provides a sure grip. A antique wrought iron guard protects fingers and brings the weight toward the middle of the knife. An ancient walrus ivory spacer surrounded by red fiber and stainless spacers separates the stag handle from the wrought iron guard. A wrought iron butt cap finishes the handle. The wrought iron used throughout was recovered from an 1800's era wagon wheel. The handle feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down.
A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector. The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
