Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Tarpon EDC liner lock is a front flipper design and a fantastic utility folder. The clip point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for the task at hand.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives.
The 3-1/3 inch clip point blade is made from N690 stainless steel hardened to 59HRC with a brushed satin finish. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The handle is combines presentation grade Arizona desert ironwood with very rare lightning strike carbon fiber. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. Copper strands in the carbon fiber nicely complement warm tones in the ironwood. Blue anodized titanium liners are jewel polished on the interior. A front flipper assists in the ease of opening. The compact front flipper is easy to use and does not get caught on things while kept in the pocket. The pierced, anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry.
Willem made an excellent, simple folding knife here and we're excited to see where he goes next.
