Description: Green Man in Autumn Dagger Pendant is a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry, engraved and carved by Washington artist Tom Sterling. This pendant clearly shows Tom's experience making netsuke (small sculptural objects, or toggles, usually worn to suspend objects hung from the sash of the kimono).
The blade is carved from 1084 in Tom's 'knapped steel' style. Combining carving and engraving, Tom created the dagger shaped blade to resemble a flint knapped stone knife.
The handle is formed from grade 2 titanium meticulously engraved and set on a full tang. The Celtic Green Man is portrayed with a skull face (hence in Autumn). Using traditional netsuke techniques, the eyes are double inlaid with antler and dark horn, creating a vivid, lifelike appearance. Oak leaves radiate from the skull. Celtic knotwork is inlaid in 24k gold.
The dagger is held in a sheath that combines titanium with antiqued copper and silver. The dagger is held captive when the pendant is worn so accidental blade deployment is impossible.
The pendant is accompanied by a 20 inch leather necklace with sterling silver hardware. Exceptional work throughout!
