Description: Andre van Heerden is already well known for making impeccable knives, and so to see collaborative efforts such as this with French designer Tashi Bharucha is quite exciting! Tashi's bold, modernistic curves are readily apparent, and combined with Andre's acute attention to detail, the results are a precision made piece with artful execution!
The blade is shaped from premium satin finished M390. M390 is a true 'super-steel' and ensures exceptional edge holding with durability. The knife has a swedge that runs nearly the length of the spine. A hollow grind makes for easy sharpening and shows off the clean, dramatic grind lines. Jimping on the thumb rest ensures a steadfast purchase.
The blade is easily opened with a simple flick of the wrist or using the flipper mechanism. It is well centered and has silky smooth action -- caused in part by the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create impeccably smooth action with no blade play.
The handle is shaped from lightning strike carbon fiber and fills out the hand perfectly. Bold curves for finger grooves and a gentle curving back ensure a secure grip in any position, while retaining a nimbleness that makes this knife feel as though it disappears in the hand. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightning strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. Anodized titanium liners and fittings round out the knife. The machined carbon fiber pocket clip is mounted for tip-up carry.
Exceptional fit and finish - an exciting collaboration to keep an eye out for!
