Description: Ryuichi (Dew) Hara is the son of renowned knifemaker Koji Hara. Together they comprise Knife House Hara. His brand new custom series is called Kabuto, which is a type of helmet first used by ancient Japanese warriors, and in later periods, they became an important part of the traditional Japanese armor worn by the samurai class and their retainers in feudal Japan.
The handle material is black Duralumin, which is a strong, hard, lightweight alloy of aluminum used in aircraft construction. It was patented in 1909 by Alfred Wilm, a German metallurgist and was originally made only at the company Dürener Metallwerke at Düren, Germany. (The name is a contraction of Dürener and aluminum). The scales have been sculpted to resemble layers of plate mail, in a feather type design and multiple pieces lend a layered effect to the handle.
Dew chose ATS-34 stainless steel for the blade. Grooves have been carved into the top portion of the blade in scallop shapes, offering a very unique look to this knife. When closed, the spine shows off the filework. The blade is absolutely amazing!
The blade features a unique button lock mechanism which locks the blade both in open and closed positions. It can either be opened with the dual thumb studs or with a flick of the wrist while pressing the button.
The knife is very comfortable in hand and lightweight due to the slim design and materials chosen. An extremely well made and unique knife!
