Description: Raymond Richard's Elk Antler S-Guard Bowie wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker. This knife was in a private collection. It is in brand new, unused condition.
The blade has a long, graceful swedge travelling 2/3 of the way along the spine. This pulls the weight out of the blade and creates an aggressive tip. A convex grind ensures a very strong edge. The blade has been differentially heat treated, with a distinctive heat treatment line approximately 1/2 way up the blade. This type of heat treatment means the knife keeps an astonishingly hard and keen edge while the spine remains supple and supportive.
The handle is formed from a single piece of elk antler. It features rich, dramatic tones of warm black, burnt sienna and ecru. The pommel and S-guard are formed from antique wrought iron, hammer finished for a texture that complements the stag perfectly. The knife is well balanced and is very comfortable and secure in the hand.
Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance and timeless soul.
