Description: Raymond Richard's designs have a timeless grace about them that comes from a family heritage of knifemaking and the inclusion of hard to find materials.
This offset dagger has a great feel. The blade is hand forged from 5160 carbon steel. Ray is a true master at the forge, regularly teaching other bladesmiths better forging techniques. Here, the blade is forged so closely to shape that only the edges had to be sharpened. This is a totally new level of mastery at the forge!
The guard, spacer, and end cap are forged from antique wrought iron. The iron has a hammered finish which continues the antique feel to the knife. The bog oak handle is gorgeous as well as comfortable in the hand. Bog oak is literally oak that has been at the bottom of the Irish bogs for centuries. Over hundreds of years, the wood hardens and darkens. All edges have been rounded and smoothed and the end of the handle swells allowing a positive retention. A truly unique piece. A 2-ply cowhide brown leather sheath is adorned with primitive carvings. This knife has a feel of something that the ancient Celts would have carried -- if only they had steel! Excellent fit and finish throughout.
