Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kiku Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father runs a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kiku joined his father's business at the age of 15 and learned grinding technique from his father. Kiku's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
The Chisel II is an excellent departure from Kiku Matsuda’s classic style. The chisel tipped tanto (American tanto point) lends itself well for hard-use applications and while we do not recommend prying with any knife, this tip-format is favored by many people who use their blades above and beyond normal knife use due to the added strength stemming from added material in the tip.
The 5 inch blade is made from Japanese D2 and features a swedge that flows nicely into perfectly positioned jimping and thumb ramp. The black canvas micarta scales are sculpted for traction while still remaining low profile. The tang is purposefully exposed on the pommel for use as a glass-breaker or similar tasks. An all-around modern tactical piece with many features useful when “the right tool for the right job” is just not a possibility!
