Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. Rich toned maple burl is offset by jet black buffalo horn. Alternating black fiber and brass spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The brass guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. This is a particularly rare Bob Lay knife in that he chose to use brass rather than stainless fittings. Brass brings in rich warm tones that nicely complement the natural wood.
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. Bob recently upgraded his steel of choice to 19C27. The steel, which is in the same family as 12C27, is tremendously wear-resistant and takes on an incredibly keen, long lasting edge. It was originally developed for cutting cardboard in industrial settings. It is one of those rare steels that has exceptional edge holding and can be easily stropped from sort-of dull to scary sharp. The blade has been tempered to 58.5Rc for optimal edge retention.
Accompanied by a green cordura storage pouch.
