Description: Butch Deveraux has been working under the watchful eye of Mastersmith Ed Fowler and certainly the influence is immediately apparent. He is a graduate of Ed's School of High Performing Knives and shows tremendous skill both in implementation and style.
Like the work of Mastersmiths Bill Burke and Ed Fowler, each of Butch's knives are pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment follows the formulas developed by Ed Fowler and Bill Burke and has been proven to create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
The thick blade has a deep recurve and strong differential heat treatment lines. The steel reveals a wootz-like pattern indicative of forging in a very limited temperature range. Many makers feel this results in particularly exceptional edge holding.
The handle is formed from sheoak burl and has a sheep horn spacer. Unlike full sheep horn handles, this one is entirely ambidextrous. It feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down -- especially held with one finger in front of the guard (Butch's preferred hold for control). This is the second knife that butch has ever made with a wood handle and the results are immediately captivating. A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
