Description: Andre van Heerden has once again designed and created a stunning folding knife! This one-of-a-kind folder is sure to feel at home in any collection, but could also be a perfect daily carry knife.
The Panzer 36 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. Panzer 36 is a martensitic stainless steel with high hardness, high wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. It is cross rolled in production to cancel out residual stresses from the manufacturing process. It has only recently begun being used by knifemakers and has gained significant acclaim by South African makers, where it has quickly found popularity. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey has been involved in the initial testing of Panzer 36 and describes it as having ' excellent edge holding and toughness.' The blade has been hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By hand satin finishing the grinds and mirror polishing the flats, Andre accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines. The thumb ramp has been fileworked for a secure thumb purchase.
The flipper style opening is a perfect combination with the IKBS ball bearing system. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) pivot system was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with virtually no blade play.
The bolsters are formed from mosaic damascus forged by Doug Ponzio. Tiny images are forged directly into the steel including whirlpools, spiders, stars, butterflies, and more! The dramatic pattern is extremely complex and immediately grabs your attention.
The bolsters have been meticulously dovetailed to very rare lightning strike carbon fiber scales. Copper strands move through the carbon fiber weave. This type of carbon fiber was originally designed for use on fighter jets to redirect electricity. Lightening strike carbon fiber is among the hardest to find knifemaking materials. The color and pattern of the carbon fiber complements the damascus well. The knife is easy to keep close at hand using the pocket clip mounted for tip-up carry. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
