Description: Aaron Wilburn, who was honored as a ABS Journeyman Smith in June of 2009, creates knives that mean business and this elegant little skinner is a great example of his work. This dramatic, drop point skinner shows the influence of knives by Mastersmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke.
The dramatically recurved, drop point blade was forged to shape from Aaron's own feather pattern damascus. The intricate damascus combines two different steels to create one of the most subtle and elegant patterns that Aaron has created. By forging the blade to shape, Aaron makes the damascus radiate from a central "quill".
The handle combines a hippo tooth tip, left almost entirely in the natural shape, with an oosic spacer. The deepest tones of the hippo ivory perfectly match the lightest tones of the oosic, creating a handle with complexity and harmony. The nickel silver guard ensures your hand will not slide onto the blade and alternating nickel silver and black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The black and nickel silver also provide an excellent counterpoint to the tones of the handle materials. The balance is perfect - this is a blade that feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched sheath. The 8-9 oz. leather has been hand tooled in a basket weave pattern.
