Description: I was very pleased when Mastersmith Bill Burke introduced me to Bruce Barnett. For several weeks, Bill had brought up this Australian visiting knifemaker as a potential new maker for BladeGallery. When I saw Bruce's attention to detail, skill, and artistic eye, I immediately thanked Bill. It was with great pleasure that I watched Bruce complete the performance test on his way to becoming a journeyman smith.
This hunter features a 4.2 inch carbon steel blade hand forged from 1084 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment line is clearly evident on the blade. This shows the division between the soft, supportive spine, and the ultra-hard edge steel. The result: Superior edge holding with exceptional durability. A distal taper assures excellent balance.
The stainless steel guard is precision fit to the blade and is followed by a nickel silver spacer surrounded by thinner black fiber spacers. The black fiber assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle is formed from birdseye wandoo wood. This Eucalyptus varietal has bright tones with a swirling grain structure. Excellent work throughout.
