Description: Bob Lay's Bowie knives are very hard to come by. He only makes 2-3 per year. This one, measuring in at a 10 1/2 inch blade, is among the largest Bowies that I've seen from Bob. When he does put his skill toward creating a Bowie, the results are exceptional, showing off designs that are well thought out and showing an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
The spalted maple burl handle has a dramatic, swirling grain pattern with black spalted lines moving through the wood. This is nicely complemented by jet black buffalo horn spacers which alternate with nickel silver and black fiber. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade has been tempered to 57 Rc for sturdy, optimal edge retention. Accompanied by certificate from the maker, a leather sheath, and a cordura storage pouch.
