Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship.
Box elder burl was stabilized and double dyed violet and teal for a dramatic swirling grain structure. A alternate ivory spacer adds contrast. Alternating stainless steel and black fiber spacers allow the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. The stainless steel guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand.
Bob recently upgraded his steel of choice from 440C to CPM154. This powdered metallurgical steel has a smaller grain structure allowing the blade to be keener and hold the edge longer. The blade has been tempered to 59 Rc for optimal edge retention. By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The spine has been fileworked for a secure thumb purchase. Accompanied by hand tooled sheath, cordura storage pouch, and certificate from the maker.
