Description: Butch Deveraux worked under the watchful eye of Mastersmith Ed Fowler and certainly the influence is immediately apparent. He is a graduate of Ed's School of High Performing Knives and shows tremendous skill both in implementation and style. This knife has been kept in a private collection since it was made. The knife has never been used to cut and by all appearances, Butch could have made this knife yesterday!
Like knives by Mastersmiths Bill Burke and Ed Fowler, each knife by Deveraux is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The blade is forged from 52100 carbon steel. The heat treatment follows the formulas developed by Ed Fowler and Bill Burke. This technique creates some of the sharpest, most long lasting edges found anywhere.
The handle is made from sheep horn. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery -- and it is amazingly durable. The front spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. The handle is very comfortable in the hand. Red, white, and blue fiber spacers will help the sheep horn adjust to humidty and temperature changes.
The knife is accompanied by a custom pouch style sheath made from waxed harness leather.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
