Description: This exceptional Coffin Handle Bowie was forged by Shayne Carter. Shayne is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and a became an ABS Mastersmith in 2019. In 1984, Shayne was the first American to win the World Champion Blacksmith Competition (WCBC) held in conjunction with the Calgary Stampede. Shayne is still the youngest participant to win the WCBC title at age 23. Over the years, Shayne has been very active in competitions, winning spots on the American Farriers Team in 1986,1988,1990,1993, 1997, and 1998. He travels all over the world teaching horseshoeing skills, blacksmithing, and knife and tool making. In 1998, Shayne received the Jim Linzy Outstanding Clinician Award. In 2000, Shayne was voted Farrier Industry Legend. This was awarded to the top 25 most influential contributors to the farrier industry. In 2003 Shayne was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. Shayne’s knives have become well-known for their exceptional functionality and beautiful designs. He competed (twice!) in and won the popular show Forged in Fire in season three. He is an exceptional blacksmith and bladesmith.
The mosaic damascus was hand forged by Shayne from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure a keen, long lasting edge. The exquisite mosaic explosion pattern is highly detailed and shows Shayne's incredible skills at the forge. His touchmark is on the left side of the blade and his M.S. stamp is on the right side. We recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and handle.
The coffin handle is mammoth ivory bark, set on a twist damascus frame. The pins are polished and domed by hand. The mammoth bark was taken from the exterior of a tusk has beautiful coffee tones with chocolate brown veins moving through the ivory. These colors move into the ivory while buried in the permafrost for thousands of years. The handle is perfectly fit to a damascus guard and spacers. The contoured handle feels great in the hand.
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown leather custom sheath with a retention snap is included.
The fit and finish throughout this knife is exceptional!
