Description: This is an exceptional knife by Mastersmith Joe Flournoy. Joe started making knives in 1977 and joined the Knifemakers' Guild in 1979. He was taught basic forging by Bill Moran and became a master smith in 1992. He has won numerous awards including Best Hand Forged Knife (Blade Show, 1991 & 1993), Moran Award - Knife of the Year (1993), Best Damascus Design (Blade Show, 1995). His work, which comes out of his country blacksmith's forge, is sure to be enjoyed for a lifetime. This knife was in a private collection since it was made in 1981. It has been meticulously cared for and is in near mint condition.
The drop point blade is polished stainless steel with a hollow grind. Based on the age of the knife, the steel used is most likely 440C stainless steel. The spine is domed for a comfortable thumb purchase. Flourney's El Dorado Arkansas touchmark is on the left side of the blade.
The scales are vintage Micarta set on a full tang using five stainless pins. The bolsters are dovetailed to buffalo horn bolsters. The tang is distal tapered, lightening the knife and giving it a perfect balance in hand. The contoured scales feel great and provide a comfortable grip.
To keep the knife close at hand, a rawhide and deerhide leather sheath with a Native American beaded design is included. The sheath includes brass cones with horse hair as is traditional for Native American style sheath work.
Nice work throughout!
