Peter Bromley has been making knives almost full time since 1987. He makes hunting knives and boot knives as well as folders, but is best known for making period pieces with an emphasis on Bowie knives. He typically uses carbon steels such as 5160, 1084, and 1095. So as to guarantee a strong, resilient edge, Peter prefers a differential heat treatment on his blades. This method involves an edge quench which makes for a hard edge and a soft back. Peter also forges his own Damascus.

Peter specializes in period Bowie style knives from the 1800's. These are especially valued for the authentic (1800's) attire of Cowboy Action Shooters. So as to stay true to period, he almost exclusively uses natural handle materials.

Using his large library of books on original Bowies and other knives, Peter continually studies knives of the era so that he can make direct reproduction of orignial styles and also knives that are a combination of that period.
