I became interested in knives as a collector about 1989. As my collecting moved toward the higher end, I became interested in the forged blade and Damascus steel. I became a customer and friend with some of the bladesmiths who's style and techniques I liked: J.D. Smith, Rick Dunkerley, Barry Gallagher, Wade Colter and Shane Taylor. I went to hammer-ins and seminars to educate myself as a collector. This led to doing some forging.

In 1998, with the help of my good friend, bladesmith Ed Schempp, I became serious about making steel. I have a great love and fascination for mosaic Damascus. I feel I am fortunate to have a talent for design work and knowing what happens to steel in the forging process. My work is influenced by the outstanding mosaics of Shane Taylor.

My Damascus is annealed and ready to grind. The bars are finished to 120 grit and etched. I take pride in the extra time I spend to ensure only quality bars. You will not be disappointed with my mosaic Damascus for that special project. For heat treating of my steel I strongly recommend Howard Clark. He understands the process and steel types that I work with. Contact: Howard Clark, 515-966-2126 or e-mail, howard@MVForge.com
